The wind has not been cooperating at all. Winds have been up too high to go out in the boat. I also got a cold (first one in many years) which laid me up for five days, three of those in bed. On May 5 my brother (Steve) and his wife arrived for a visit. We took them out on the “Skimmer” a local birding boat which takes tours along the Aransas National Wildlife area. Them saw a number of new birds, and were impressed with the knowledge of Capt Tommy. Steve and I got out on three consecutive, 7, 8, and 9 fishing. On the 7th with wade fished along the causeway to Port A. The 8th we took my boat to one of my favorite spots, and then on the 9th a real treat we went out with a friend, and long time fisher of these waters. Some big trout came home and were enjoyed. Steve and Laura are big into birding so they are enjoying the numerous birds we have in the area. We took them over to a Port Aransas birding preserve and they made a couple new “life” birds. (Life birds meaning first seen) Steve’s older daughter, Nicole, is also coming for a visit and is expected Tuesday the 13th. We are looking forward to see and spending so time with her also. Life is good in South Texas.

Nancy and I just returned from a “Wild Game & Wine Party” of some friends in Friendswood (near Houston). What a wonderful gathering. Steve and Joyce showed off their new home which is amazing. Those invited are either hunting or fishing associates of Steve’s or of course family. While some knew some, nobody except the hosts, knew very many. It was a great party. Nancy & I stayed overnight in Houston, did some shopping and returned late this afternoon. This has been an annual event, so we hope to be invited again.

Went out with the winds up 15-20 mph, got beat up going out, while fishing and coming home. We did find some nice green water near our new favorite well site. We brought home 10 nice 16-17 inch trout. We also caught 3 stringrays, 10 headhead catfish, and 1 whiting. So while the weather was lousy we still had a good time and caught some fish. No Redfish caught or seen.

Nancy & I were treated to a special event in honor of long time Texan, Stella Z. Monica and Ray B. included us in a family event which honored her Mother. The gathering was much larger than I was entirely comfortable with (approx. 225 people). But it was a great event. Thanks much to Monica and Ray.

Today was not the best day to go out. The predicated wind speeds were 5-10 from the SE till noon and then changing over to the N at 10-15. What we got was significantly more 15-20 till about 1030 then changing over from the N at 15-20. So the count was down, 8 trout, only 3 keepers, 1 whiting, 1 croaker, 1 stringray, and 5 HardHead catfish. The sea state was choppy and made the ride not too much fun. We were safe and headed in early.

Today’s trip was good. The wind was down to 3-5 mph early dropping off to nearly 0 for 45 min or so, then back to 3-5 mph. Water Conditions at our first location was murky so after awhile we moved location to much improved green water. Water temp was down to 70 degrees. Fishing results: 10 Spotted Sea trout of which 2 were undersized, most of the others were in the 17 inch range, Also caught but did not keep any: 3 whitings, 3 stringrays, and eleven hardhead catfish. We left the house at 6:15 a.m. and made it back to the house about 1:30 p.m. The locations we went today are in the Aransas Bay which we haven’t been fishing much. Our “normal” location is Cedar Bayou however the passage from the bay to the gulf has silted in and is preventing any water from passing thru. Which of course makes the fishing terrible. We are therefore searching out new locations. Plus sides to the sites we used today are: easy to reach, closer (using less gas 5.7 gallons to day verses our normal 9.2 gallons to go to Cedar Bayou), other sites are more accessible if the fish are not there, also the launch sites have different annual prices, $65 dollars per year for the location we launch for Cedar Bayou, and free if using a boat registered in Texas.

The wind just did not cooperate on Friday, winds 20-25 mph from the north kept us on the shore. Anyway will try Monday April 7th. According the tables and weather predications should be a good day.

Good fishing seems to be a combination of things ;those which are predicatable and those that are not. The movement of water (current) and phases of the moon (fish feeding at night), have a major impact on a days fishing. So the calendar below depicts when the best fishing would be all else being equal. Triple X days are the best! Water temp, wind, rain and other variable are not considered.

Today’s fishing trip was excellent. The wind speed was 3 mph when we left and increased over the day to about 10 mph when we returned. We had not expected much but we had sucess. Caught about 30 Seatrout, 2 large sheepshead, 2 Hardhead catfish, 2 whitings, and 2 stingrays. We were able to keep 7 of the trout due to size restrictions. The water temp according to my gauge was 73 degrees. Hope to go out again Friday.

You came to find out what’s going on. What happened? They seemed so happy? They haven’t said anything to anybody? Are we doing a good job of wandering through your wonderings?
April Fool’s
We are moving from a traditional website to a blog format. Nancy found it challenging to keep the site updated with the business taking off and keeping her busy. We are going to try this format and see what happens. Nancy joined the Rotary Club of Rockport. They have lunch meetings on Thursdays. That will be our (Yes - Dennis will do some of the posting himself) trigger to get a post written each week. They may be fishing pictures, recipes, trip reports, or anything that strikes our fancy.
We would love to read your comments about our move now and topics in the future.
Hey - We never said in the email what we were moving - you’re the one that jumped to conclusions. : )
